"TOUCHE COULEUR"  PRESS RELEASE

FLOWER EVENT ALDEN BIESEN presents
'Touche Couleur- Couleur Touche'
FROM FRIDAY 24 UP TO AND INCLUDING MONDAY 27 SEPTEMBER 2010
NATIONAL COMMANDERY ALDEN BIESEN/BILZEN (LIMBURG) BELGIUM

With colour as its central theme, the fifteenth edition of the internationally renowned flower-arranging event attains new heights with regards to flower presentation and art, with glass design, sculpture and visual art on display.

Clemens Briels creates poignant art works

El narrador del color’ – the colour storyteller – at the entrance will undoubtedly be a great eye-catcher. This imposing two-and-a-half-metre tall piece was created to mark the jubilee of Heidelberg Zoo and was of course chosen as a symbol because of this year’s theme.

Clemens Briels’ art works are always inspired by a story. He translates his experiences in his own way, in his own fantasy world. The result is a dazzling spectacle of colours and shapes that are to be viewed with a dose of humour!

Enchanting glass

The Borowski family runs a glass workshop of world renown in the German town of Hennef. The family of artists made its name through the unusual works of artist Stanislaw Borowski. Today his sons Wiktor and Pawel manage the company. Not only do they have a professional artists’ atelier; they also export their art objects across the world.

Besides breathtaking individual glass pieces, the small atelier also designs and produces exclusive, decorative and functional objects for the home. Each piece is manufactured with the greatest care. They are created by hand, glass blown or shaped in the oven. The characteristic originality and lively luminous intensity of the coloured glass transforms each object into an extraordinary experience. Let yourself be enchanted by Borowski glass and discover the collections: Outdoor Objects, Studio Line and Artist Edition.

Exclusively for this event, master florist Baudouin Roelants will decorate six vases.

Welcome to the world of Liesbeth Swinnen

Chic and playful, chaotic and colourful, but also quiet and colourless...
Welcome to Liesbeth Swinnen’s exhibition!

Liesbeth’s paintings require little explanation even though they form a whole story. One painting is a flamboyant feast of colours, while another may be stylish and subdued, a harmonious blend of sober colours. Past emotions and experiences are like caffeine and form a powerful source of inspiration.

Location: cellars of the castle (www.liesbetswinnen.be)

Another interesting tip for art lovers: visit the colourful painter’s fair 'Touche de Montmartre' on Sunday 26 September at the Maastrichterallee.

Master florist Stef Adriaenssens brings new life to the Blue Salon

The Blue Salon in the castle’s southwesterly corner tower was ceremoniously opened in November 2007 following restoration works. This once richly decorated room was partly reconstructed after the fire of 1971: the marble mantelpiece, the recovered chimney and the wooden internal doors. The splendid handmade gilded chandelier ‘Candles and Spirits’ by William Brand from the Brand-van-Egmond collection, forms the centrepiece of the small room.

With his team, master florist Stef Adriaenssens from Lier is a master of the unexpected and keeps surprising visitors. This year he will have the honour of giving this special room – which has never before been decorated to mark this event – a colourful feel.

He will also create a special flowerbed with germini flowers in all colours.

World Cup Shanghai 2010: Araik Galstyan, designer of 'living art'

Not everyone gets the chance to meet the participants of the Interflora Flower-Arranging World Championship in the flesh. We invited Araik Galstyan, who was chosen by the public for the ‘Dutch Creations People’s Choice Award’.

Araik is of Armenian origin. The general philosophy of his work is excellence: it has to be perfect. He draws the inspiration that allows him to work seven days a week from his love of nature and the interplay between the colours of the sun, the forest and the sky.

Celebrations: Miranda Ter Voorde & Friends

In collaboration with Rekad publishers, master florist Miranda Ter Voorde will introduce a book that was published to mark her 10-year jubilee. It is a feel-good book about year-round celebrations in which flowers, with all their emotions, play a lead role. Together with a number of friends and colleagues, Miranda will portray themes from the book.

La Couleur de l'Amour

In the church, models from Miss Fashion will present (on Saturday and Sunday) a new take on wedding flower arrangements. They will parade in wedding dresses from the ‘Bellini Boutique’, showing a thrilling variety of flower arrangements by 35 master florists.
This will be a source of inspiration for any modern and traditional bride.
